Record Player

The record player loops a narrative,
the tonearm skipping over deep scratches
detail is lost in garbled tones
conversations resound, indecipherable
A memory of a memory.

On the wall a stagnant portrait hangs, quietly
Staring with wide eyes through layers of dust

I listen to the scratchy words,
streaming from the mouth, painted shut.
